All work and no skate

After a few years away, the call of skating has been heard and obeyed.

I think it was seeing the John Cardiel mini documentary over at VBS that fired up that neural net again. Since then it’s constantly on my mind; videos, ramp plans, even thoughts of building a little concrete park on my property.

All my skate stuff got left behind when we moved up to Washington though so I’ve had to start fresh on things. Well today, a semi-key component arrived… the board! The anticipation and unpacking of the box felt like christmas back in the day. And much like christmas in Utah, where you have to wait out the weather to actually go outside and skate, I now have to wait for all this rain to clear. Once it does though, a trip to the skatepark with my friends pain, fatigue and embarrassment, is definitely on.

UPDATE

Well, that didn’t take long.

Just one more badge to add to the list. The humor of it all is definitely not lost on me.

And you know, you post about getting a skateboard and I think to myself, but he's in his thirties. And he uses the computer everyday. Maybe I should tell him he'll get hurt and that the ground is a lot harder than it was 10 years ago.

And then I saw something shiny and forgot. Hope you feel better soon!

Ah shite. Makes me think twice about getting on my boys skateboard and trying out the neighbors ramp.

Get your wrist well soon and post some pix of some sweet kick flips.

The EXACT same thing happen to me three weeks ago.

I got the itch to go skate. Naturally I picked up a board a few days later… and the next morning I have a broken wrist and elbow.

    Awesome

Haha, I'm a designer / developer myself. a couple of years back I went from having not skated in a while to broken (well fractured) wrist and thumb in like 5 mins!

it went a little something like "drive way" -> "up the hill" -> "around the block" -> "down the hill" -> "phone call to mum" -> "home" -> "to the hospital".

PS: my car does 50KM an hour in nurtural where I fell off. Although I should probably recalculate that :)

Baawaahaa! That update "cracked" me up. Bummer deal man but that's the name of the game. The falls seem to be more dramatic the older you get.

    The VBS link is nice.
